''Bhimtal is a small town situated in the Nainital district of Uttarakhand. It is named after Bhim, one of the five Pandavas mentioned in the Hindu-epic Mahabharata. Due to its historical links and various interesting tourist spots located within its vicinity, Bhimtal forms one of the famous tourist destinations in Uttarakhand, today. It is situated about 22 km away from Nainital and 11 km away from Bhowali, at an altitude of 1370 meters.
Bhim Tal provides ample water sport opportunities for amateurs with paddling and boating facilities. ''

The town of Bhimtal is mainly popular among tourists and local travellers alike, mainly due to its proximity to the hill station of Nainital. Bhimtal is mainly famous for the enormous Bhimtal Lake that is present in the region. During your trip to the town of Bhimtal, you can go boating in the Bhimtal Lake, as this is one of the chief tourist attractions in Bhimtal. The lake has an island in its centre, and this island can only be accessed through boats.

Bhimtal is a place of religious significance as well. A temple complex is located in the town of Bhimtal, and this complex attracts pilgrims from in and around the region. Called Bhimeshwar, the temple complex was built in the 17th century.

BEST TIME TO VISIT

Bhimtal is a year round destination, though the best time to visit is from March to June in summer and September to November in winter. In the months of December and January, it is cold in Bhimtal but not as cold as in the surrounding hill stations of Uttarakhand. In Monsoons in July and August, the hill roads are not very good to travel and are landslide prone.

PLACES AROUND BHIMTAL

Bhimtal Lake - The Lake is larger than the Nainital Lake. The small island (91 meters from the shore of the lake) is in the center of the lake and a popular tourist attraction. You can visit the island by a boat.

Bhimeshwara Temple - The 17th century temple dedicated to lord Shiva is on the bank of the Bhimtal Lake.

Garg Parvat - It is the source of river Gargi, also known as Gola Nadi in the region.

Snow View Trek - The Snow view point is located at a height of 2270 meter above sea level. It can be reached by the ropeway or the ponies available at Mallital.

Nauruchiatal - 04 kms from Bhimtal. A lake with 09 corners. It is bigger and more beautiful lake then Nainital & Bhimtal, boating are main attraction.

Nal Damyanti Tal - About 2 km from Bhimtal is Nal Damyanti Tal, a small natural lake. It is believed that the palace of famous king Nala drowned into this lake. It is a very sacred place for the dwellers of the region.

Hidimba Parvat: - About 5 km from Bhimtal is a hill known as Hidimba Parvat. It gets its name from demon Hidimba of Mahabharata. Vankhandi Maharaj, a monk and environmentalist lives on the hill now, and has created a sanctuary for the wild animals around the hill. The area is known as Vankhandi Ashram.

CLIMATE

The climate of this region can be classified as sub tropical, with the basic seasons of summer, winter and monsoon. Summers in the town of Bhimtal are very mild and winters are cold, thus making it an ideal destination for honeymoons. The best time to visit the town of Bhimtal would be during the summer months and also during early winter.

HOW TO REACH THERE

Air: The nearest airport to Bhimtal is at Pantnagar, During the summer regular flights are operational. the seat of a famous agricultural university, about 55 Kms from Bhimtal.

Rail: situated 276kms from Delhi and 30kms from Bhimtal. There are two trains that run daily between Delhi to Kathgodam and vice-versa.

Road: Bhim Tal is well connected with motorable roads connecting major cities and towns of Uttarakhand state. Buses to Kathgodam and Nainital are easily available from ISBT Anand Vihar, Delhi.
